2007 Student Loan Recipients: |

Andres Ciriello is a systems analyst at American University’s Bender Library.
With a Bachelor of Arts degree in film studies from the University of
California at Berkeley and a Master of Arts in media and communications
from New York University, Andres plans to obtain his MLS from the University
of Maryland at College Park in May 2008. |

Cameron Gowan has a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology
from the University of Southern California and a Doctor of Jurisprudence
from Thomas Jefferson School of Law. She has worked
in various legal settings in California, Arizona, and DC. She is an
active community volunteer and has raised funds for literacy programs.
Cameron is working toward an MLS from Catholic University
while employed in a local law firm. |

Yujung Park is a staff member in the Collections Access, Loan
and Management Division of the Library of Congress. She began
at LC as a volunteer in the Acquisitions Division and then
worked in the Law Library and the Asian Division. She has a
Bachelor of Arts in Japanese language and literature from Kyong
Hee University in South Korea. She studied computer graphics at
Montgomery University in Maryland and she is currently working
on her MLS from Catholic University. |

Cambria Backus has held several positions at Reading is Fundamental, Inc. and is currently the Assistant to the President. She has been a volunteer at the Mount Pleasant Branch of DC Public Libraries since 2004. Cambria is enrolled in the School Library Media program at the University of Maryland College of Information Studies and she expects to graduate in 2008. |

Kimberly Peach is in the Binding and Collections Care Division at the Library of Congress. A willing and able volunteer, Kimberly is the secretary of the Library of Congress Professional Association and the treasurer of the LC Cooking Club for 2006. She is also a book repair volunteer with the Washingtoniana Division at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library of DC Public Libraries. She is a student at Catholic University and expects her MLS in the fall of 2007. |

Robyn Weisman is a Circulation Desk Specialist at the American University Library. She had previously worked at the George Mason University Johnson Center Library while getting her B.A. in integrative studies concentrating on literature and drama. She has worked in libraries for ten years in various capacities including service as a volunteer at the Fair- fax City Library from 1995-1996. She is enrolled at the University of Maryland College of Information Studies and she expects to graduate in May 2007. Her current career goal is to be a librarian in a public or academic library. |

Rachel Kirkland has served as the day supervisor of circulation, reserves, and media services and is currently a reference assistant and student supervisor at the Johnson Center Library of George Mason University. A graduate of George Mason with a BA in English, she is currently in the University of Tennessee at Knoxville distance learning program in library science and expects to complete her degree requirements in 2006. In January 2005, she received the George Mason University Employee of the Month Award. She also serves as a reference assistant at the Manassas branch of the Prince William County (VA) Public Library. |

Sarah Palacios Wilhelm currently serves as the public services and reference coordinator at the Eckles Library, George Washington University, and recently served as acting manager of the Eckles Library while the manager was out on maternity leave. As a freshman at George Washington, she founded the Eckles Library Student Advisory Board to help increase communication between the student body and the library administration. She graduated in 2003 and is currently enrolled in the library science distance learning program at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She plans to earn a law degree and pursue a career in international law librarianship working for a non-profit advocacy group or NGO. |

Marie Folk has served in the military and has been a military wife. She has had a variety of library positions at Duke University’s Perkins Library, the Bad Toelz American Elementary School in West Germany, the Library of Congress, and the Beaufort Elementary School in South Carolina. She completed her bachelor’s at the University of South Carolina. Since Oct. 2000, she has been a library technician in Serial Records at the National Library of Medicine. A member of ALA and SLA, Marie is interested in archives, book arts, and special collections. Marie is also a member of the Chi Delta Chi Veterans' Honor Society and of BIG (Blacks In Government). |

Anna Hall was a practicing bankruptcy lawyer in Florida for 27 years after graduating from the University of Miami School of Law. She served for several years as a member of the Law Library Committee of the Broward County, Florida Bar Association. Shortly after 9/11, she was inspired to change to a career in librarianship to "do something to make a difference." With the Ruth Fine Memorial Student Loan assistance, she will be able to complete her master’s this summer. She looks forward to working in a federal, military, or academic library where her legal education and experience will be an asset. |

Deborah L. Hensley is a resident of the District of Columbia and is the Library Media Specialist at Watkins Elementary School on Capitol Hill. She has worked in banking, in the theater, and in schools as a substitute teacher and volunteer. She has a B.A. in economics from Wellesley College. Deborah would like to bring quality literature to life and she enjoys story time with children. She sees the school library as the key to opening vistas of opportunity for children. |

Veralrose Hylton is a Research Information Associate at AARP where she is responsible for serials control. Previously, she had worked for Telesec in various library settings and for Howard University as a library work-study student. She has a B.S. in environmental science and pre-law from Howard University and she graduated magna cum laude. Veralrose is interested in a position as a reference or Internet librarian in a special library. She would like to be a mentor to others. |

Joy C. Jackson is a District of Columbia resident who will begin her library education at the University of Maryland this fall. She is currently a Spanish teacher at St. Margaret of Scotland Academy in Seat Pleasant, MD. A 1995 graduate of the University of Virginia, she had a double major in Spanish and sociology. Joy is planning to focus on services to young adults in a school or public library setting. |

Zewdu Mantegbot is a library proctor at the Central Library of Arlington County Dept. of Libraries. He already has completed several courses at Catholic University. He earned a teacher training diploma and a B.Ed in Ethiopia and he has had advanced training in Kenya, Tanzania, Germany, and the U.S. He has worked as a teacher, a trainer of teachers, and the director of an institute for the training of teachers in Ethiopia. He states that he is committed to serve in public libraries where he can reach people of different backgrounds and cultures. He is currently a member of the Arlington County Dept. of Libraries Services to New Americans Team. |
